You can enjoy the wonders of New York city without having a guilty conscience. An optional donation of £2 will be included in the purchase of all tickets - this money is to be added to the funds raised from every college ball or event of 2012, enabling the University as a whole to raise an estimated £50,000 for charity.
By working together with the other colleges we can give the kind of money that really makes a difference to people's lives. Hoping to support a large, well-established charity such as Oxfam, the vision is to transform the image of May-week and the Cambridge balls - we want to show that Cambridge isn't just about work and partying.
If you've already paid for your tickets it's still possible for you to give a donation when collecting your ticket.
We are also working with the Cambridge Ball Sustainability Project to make our event as environmentally friendly as possible. Plastic glasses are one of the main sources of waste from a ball so we're using durable glasses that can be collected and reused next year. We're also avoiding bottled mineral water and purchasing as few individual drinks bottles as possible. When it comes to decorations, we're aiming on keeping or donating at least two thirds. For any waste that does have to be thrown away, 85% will be recycled by our waste disposal company.
